Despite vowing full speed ahead on his insane tariffs on Tuesday,
yesterday saw Chump back off.
The
Trump Administration’s tariff policy, which was announced a week ago
today, has started to hit the presidency somewhere that he cares about:
His approval rating.
Enough, in fact, that Trump on Wednesday announced a drop to 10 percent on most of the non-China tariffs.
That’s according to a new The Economist/YouGov Poll, taken between April 5 and 8 — entirely after the tariffs were announced — and released on Wednesday Up
at the top, the poll finds that Trump has an approval rating of 43
percent, compared to 54 percent unfavorable, although if it’s any
consolation for the president, Vice President J.D. Vance’s approval
rating is just 38 percent, while Elon Musk comes in at 40 percent.

“off on the wrong track,” while 35 percent say the nation is “Generally
headed in the right direction,” while 12 percent answered “not sure.”

What

always get this -- when a politician may take a stand you disagree

Former
Senator Russ Feingold should have gone on to become a president of the
United States. He was a great politician and a number of us tried to
talk him into running for the 2016 nomination. Had he been in the Senate
this year, he would have made a lot of Democrats angry because he
would've voted for Chump's nominees. He felt, at least when he was in
the Senate (and when the nominees might be problematic but weren't as
ridiculous as Chump's nominees) that you voted to confirm the Cabinet
appointees to give the president the staff he wanted.
I disagreed with that but I understood where he was coming from and never held it against him.
But
Gretch The Wretch? She has no ethics and she has no party loyalty.

President
Donald Trump's budget plan likely won't pass its House vote Wednesday
afternoon. That's because several GOP lawmakers will not be backing it,
including Congressman Eric Burlison (R-MO).
“I
can’t live with myself if I go back home and I added more debt and
deficits without any kind of correction whatsoever,” Burlison told the
New York Times. “I couldn’t live with myself.”
The
former state lawmaker successfully advocated for the Show-me State's
Legislature to seek an amendment to require a balanced budget.
Burlison
is not the only republican who has yet to come around and agree with
President Trump's budget plan within the halls of Congress.

went up last night. So last night on ALL IN WITH CHRIS HAYES, Chris
wanted to talk and inform. But not really. Really informing would have
required telling his viewers that the man he brought on to talk about
what we Democrats need to do was not, in fact, a Democrat. Waleed
Shahid is not a Democrat.
He's many things
including a racist. He went honk-honk-honkey-ing to defeat Kamala
Harris. Kamala is a Black woman. Waleed is a White man. Rashida Tlaib
is also White -- as Elaine noted in "Consequences."
Let's stop there for just a minute. We all learn. In 2008, in a
supportive segment on Ralph Nader in a snapshot, I called him a person
of color. He immediately responded to correct me. He was White. He
was an Arab. And he was correct. I looked into it. Arabs have always
been considered White.
Afro-Iraqis are Black.
But unless you belong to a group like that, if you're Arab -- and most
of Iraq is -- then you're White. And let's include this video about
Afro-Iraqis.
So
White Waleed attacked the Black woman. And like so many others in DSA,
they pretend they believe in reparations. They don't. The spirit of
reparations would have said you backed the Black woman -- she's running
against a White racist, you back the Black woman -- it's not just right,
it's the historically right thing to do. She was qualified and she was
running against a convicted monster who was a racist and who called her a
whore in the debate -- a remark the media intentionally overlooked. DSA
worked to defeat her.
That includes honk-honk-honkey Waleed.

And what he's doing can get NPR cut off from federal funding. He's
part of a behind-the-scene circle jerk. They work together to ensure
that 'the message' gets out. We quoted from three e-mails but I've seen
many more. And what happens is Amy Goodman, the NPR man and many other
media types get these 'blasts' telling them what stories to cover and
who to have as their guest. Amy had Waleed already this week so I guess
was time for him to be handed off to another outlet.
Taylor Lorenz did a hideous video yesterday (see Ava and my "MEDIA: Taylor Lorenz doesn't do analytics or journalism (at least not in
any meaningful manner)"). She wanted you to know about fake asses.
She's part of the DSA circle jerk which is why she didn't tell you
about those fake asses. JACOBIN is the DSA bible and Ana did their
podcast, hosted it. She did it very poorly and gathered a ton of
complaints but they kept her on. That's a whole other story but just in
case this is the last snapshot what I'm really trying to get at today
is that you need to start asking yourself if it's okay that outlets you
trust are lying and tricking you? Is it really worth it to you? All of
these things taking place in the shadows and hidden from you. That's
okay?

After the defendants, Norris and Kootenai County, failed to respond to the initial tort claim, Collinson was able to file a lawsuit in October 2024.[23] The lawsuit accuses Norris of slander, defamation, placing her in a false light, and causing emotional distress.[24] Addressing the lawsuit once more in a sheriff's office news release, Norris reaffirmed his stance, describing the claim as politically motivated and promising to contest what he termed "a hoax".[23][24] He offered a $10,000 reward to members of the public who could assist with defending himself from the personal lawsuit, issuing his statement on the official sheriff's office letterhead and posting it on the office's Facebook page.[21]
The SpokaneSpokesman-Review reported the response of Fred Scheffelmaier, owner of the Country Barn Bed and Breakfast in Cataldo, who hosted the forum where Norris allegedly made his statements. Scheffelmaier expressed shock at what Norris said, saying, "Why would you call someone something like that in a public meeting?"[24]
His use of official sheriff's office resources to address personal allegations raised concerns regarding the legality of his actions, prompting inquiries to state agencies for clarification on potential campaign finance violations.[25]
Local Coeur d’Alene photographer Pennie Collinson filed the lawsuit Monday against Norris and the county over comments she said he made to her in July. Collinson attended the Kootenai County Republican Party Primary Election Forum in Cataldo at the time, where she was working as a photographer for Mike Bauer, a candidate for sheriff. During the candidate questioning portion of the forum, the lawsuit says, Norris pointed out Collinson and accused her of performing sex acts and photographing child pornography at a local library. More than 50 people attended the event.
The lawsuit, filed in Kootenai County, accuses Norris of slander, defamation, publication in a false light and inflicting emotional distress. Collinson originally filed an intent to sue Norris over the alleged incident in August, but because there was no reply to the claim, Collinson was able to sue.
Since the lawsuit was filed, Norris wrote in a news release on a sheriff’s office official letterhead he will be fighting the accusations and will “expose the extent of this hoax.”

While Norris says it didn’t happen, four witnesses provided written statements in which they corroborated Collinson’s accusations against Norris. Norris said “she likes taking pictures” of pornography and accused her of molesting children, a witness wrote in a statement. Another said he acknowledged Collinson and told the crowd she “likes” performing certain sex acts.
All witnesses in the lawsuit stated the crowd gasped and the room went silent.
Fred Scheffelmaier, the owner of the Country Barn Bed and Breakfast in Cataldo, hosted and emceed the forum. Scheffelmaier opened the meeting with a prayer, he told The Spokesman-Review in August.
“I was dumbfounded,” he said. “Why would you call someone something like that in a public meeting? … It wasn’t right. I just got through stating we were there to promote yourselves, no negative conduct.”

Borrenpohl said that after she declined to leave, Norris turned to the unidentified men and said, “Guys, get her.”

[Police Chief Lee] White said it’s not appropriate for law enforcement to forcefully remove a person from a town hall for speaking out of turn or shouting. “I don’t care what your message is, especially in an open town hall like this,” White said. “We have to respect everybody’s First Amendment rights, regardless of what side of the aisle you happen to sit on. I know there’s some people up here who probably disagree with me and would like us to take action and maybe try to silence a voice that’s in opposition to theirs at a town hall, but there’s very little we can do with regard to First Amendment protections. We have to make sure people have the protections afforded them under the Constitution.”
Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement regarding the incident:
“Our democracy rests on our First Amendment rights. If we can’t question leaders elected to represent us without fear of reprisal, we are not free. The town hall is a valued American tradition that embodies these principles, providing a place for constituents to ask questions and share their opinions on the issues of the day. At the recent Kootenai County Republicans’ town hall, it was clear organizers did not intend to allow dialogue between legislators and the constituents they serve. It is a very sad day when a woman who voices dissent is physically dragged out of a public venue by unidentified men while the event moderator belittles and taunts her. Idaho deserves better.”
