Supreme Court, TV and Ty

If you missed this at the other community websites, you can listen to the hearings on whether to confirm Samuel Alito Jr. to the Supreme Court or not by going to Pacifica and listening online.

Yesterday, I was talking to Three Cool Old Guys and they were pointing out that not only is Alito not a woman, he's White. So when Sandra Day O'Connor steps down, we'll have one female on the bench and one person of color. We're going backwards. And that's just like everything else the Bully Boy does. He wants to turn back the clocks to before FDR when the robbers baron ran free and if you were poor, working class or lower middle class, you were just screwed.

Three Cool Old Guys pointed out that Clarence Thomas being African-American didn't influence the way he looks at things "But he still doesn't realize that he's Black." He acts like he doesn't realize it. They said something else too. I thought about it today when one of the Republican senators was going on in the hearings about porn and those 'bad liberals.'

They pointed out that the only time you can expect Thomas to fight is when the case has to do with porn and his love of porn may be the only thing he brought to the bench.

I don't know if you know this, but Clarence Thomas never speaks in Court. He's the only Justice that doesn't ask questions. He says it's because people picked on the way he spoke earlier in life.
So?

Three Cool Old Guys said that's not an excuse, that when he's a national figure, he has an obligation to learn to speak. But he doesn't speak. Maybe if he started asking questions, he'd find his voice, his real voice. Instead, he just shuts up and pretends he's white.

And votes however his babysitter Scalia votes.

Unless it's porn, according to Three Cool Old Guys. He can break ranks on porn.

Listening to the hearings on Pacifica, I heard one of the commentators point out, I think it was Larry Bensky, that the Senate's no better. There's only one African-American in the Senate.
Barak Obama is the one out of fifty. This is unacceptable.

In terms of the way this work on TV, check out Ty's piece at The Third Estate Sunday Review.
That's good writing. Ty didn't think so and had showed it to C.I. C.I. told him it had to go in the Sunday edition but Ty's too modest. C.I. floated the idea of a solo piece at The Common Ills Friday and then really rallied everyone to ask Ty if they could read it. Once we did, and once we told Ty how great it was, he told us it could go in.

So if you read it, make a point to let Ty know by dropping a line at thirdestatesundayreview@yahoo.com. And you don't have to say thank you to C.I. but know that part of the story because C.I. really is the most supportive person I know outside of my family. You can say, "It's crap" about something you're working on and C.I. will find the good part of it and steer you towards that or you can write something and think, "Oh who's going to care?" and C.I. will hear that and convince you that because most people may not care is the reason to post the thing you wrote.

And that is the best reason to put something out there, because no one else is talking about it.
And no one in the community with a website has been talking about cooking but that changed on Saturday when Trina started her site Trina's Kitchen. Trina is Mike's mother so be sure to check out her site.
